Module One - Skype

Earlier this week we had a Module One Skype Session. We focussed on three main points: Diagram, Literature and Ethics.

This was the first time I had been able to join a Skype call as I usually work in the evenings teaching, however due to the Covid-19 outbreak, I now have my evenings free and it was lovely to join and communicate with my fellow colleagues.

I started the discussion by asking everyone how they had been getting on with their 'diagrams.' What came out of this discussion was extremely helpful. The end points were: to allow it to be free, to have a reason in which you have chosen to communicate and to think of it as a visual way of explaining your Professional Practice to go hand in hand with your written essay.

We then discussed literature and how we could incorporate and make it relevant to our learning. It was great to hear everyones ideas with different pieces of literature and it gave me some inspiration to continue reading through some of the recommended texts.

Lastly, we talked about Ethics and how not to get tied up with trying to explain everything but to make it more specific to you and your practice.

This week has been a crazy week. I have started working full-time instead of part-time at the NHS as a Medical Laboratory Assistant and have shown my support in being redeployed to what ever department needs me for extra shifts. This is a hard time for us all but we will all get through it together. I now need to try and create a new study plan as my currently study plan has been turned on its head because of the outbreak.

Stay safe everyone and hopefully we can have more Skype sessions in the future.

  1. Hello Paul,

Massive thankyou for working for the NHS. It's a real crazy time. I did my own post about how Covid-19 has affected me and my practise.

I'd love to hear your comments.

I also struggle making ethics specific. Whilst writing my essay I have found myself asking random open ended questions without even attempting to answer them!

    Stay safe,

  2. Hi Paul,

You are incredible. It must be a difficult time for you trying to balance work, study and just staying safe! I have struggled being at home as a single parent to two little boys. Although I am a teacher it is a completely different ball game teaching your own children! good ole home education!

My feedback for my diagram was goo, so I feel as if I'm going in the right direction with that...however, I need to work on my essay a bit more. I hope you had some positive and helpful feedback.

Take care and stay happy and healthy :)

    1. Hi Clare, that feeling of apprehension is completely normal. This is a new beginning and can be quite daunting. Know that we all feel the same and are here to support one another. The Skype sessions are a great way of asking questions, listening to other people's thought process' and problem solving together. You do not only have to only attend your own Module's Skype calls, you can join others. There tends to be more than 1 time slot for each Skype, most times there is an early and late call. If however you miss some, it is ok as people blog about the information they gained and the topics they discussed. So if you do miss any, do not worry, just interact with blog posts and discuss your questions there. I hope this help! Paul :) x
