Module 2 Skype Call: Practicalities of doing practice-based research
We had a Friday evening skype call with a module two focus on our inquiry proposals. During the call, we got to talk through our inquiry proposals and listen to our peers proposals and give feedback. It was a really interesting call, listening to everyone's proposals and also hearing everyone's thoughts about our own proposals. It really made us question some of our ideas and thought processes and allowed us to critically reflect on our own journey, so far.
I found it extremely beneficial, talking through my ideas and making sense of it from a spoken rather than written point of view. It brought up some interesting questions about reasons for interviewing and making sure that our methodology, methods and analysis work together and are not disjointed from each other. Another key point that continued to come up throughout the call was ethical considerations and how they should be discussed throughout the entire proposal.
I have had many considerations throughout this module, however when reading through my draft proposal, I have realised that I have not discussed a lot of them. Talking through this during the Skype allowed me to understand that these were ethical considerations and that I should discuss them in my proposal.
This call was extremely beneficial, at this stage in the process, as it allowed us to share and discuss, as a community, our thoughts and ideas about our own and each others proposals. I discussed, at the end of the call, that the call had linked back to some of my module one exploration on David Kolb's Learning Cycle and learning from experience. We are on a journey, it is not so much the end goal but the knowledge and understanding that we gain from exploring and reflecting on the process continually, to better our own practice.

Hi Paul,
ReplyDeleteI also found this call really useful as we could listen to everyone's ideas and methods. I felt quite inspired listening to everyone talk about their planned inquiry because you could tell it meant something to each person. It was also a good reminder of how important ethical considerations are, and how we need to be continually thinking about them.
Thank you
Alys :) x
